EXPERIENCE

Kid Chess, Marietta, GA

June 2006 – August 2008

Multimedia Developer

  • Designed and built fun and colorful chess games and quizzes on the interactive website to complement the cartoon videos in Kid Chess’s after-school programs.
  • Programmed dozens of web applications capable of following all the rules of chess including piece movement, check and checkmate.

Project: Kidchess.com Children’s Video Section

  • Developed the front-end and back-end of kidchess.com/videos, using combination of Flash animation and actionscript, PHP, MySQL, XML, HTML, and JavaScript.
  • Integrated actionscript and PHP to handle passwords and user authentication.
  • Created a menu system and playback for videos that are driven by XML generated from a MySQL database.
  • Created a dynamic back-end user interface for easy updates.

Project: Kid Chess Evaluator & Knight’s Tour

  • Coded and designed dynamic eLearning software to teach chess basics, primarily using actionscript, but also using XML, PHP, and MySQL for the menu and cartoon video integration.
  • Created a video-linking system so that if a user fails a quiz, instructional videos are pulled from the video section of the website and shown on the interface of the Evaluator.
  • Used object-oriented programming concepts to develop applications.


Lead Animator

  • Built a method using Flash animation and creative actionscripting to produce quality cartoon videos that worked within the company’s small business budget.
  • Grew the project to a team of 4, including a professional illustrator and a second animator.
  • Increased child, parent, and teacher satisfaction with the Kid Chess after-school programs, because of the ease and convenience of the cartoons.
  • Created 70+ episodes to be sold nationally online to after-school programs interested in starting their own chess programs.


Teacher

  • Entertained and taught chess and character development to classes of up to 50 students, specializing in K-5th grade.
  • Lead a team of instructors to effectively teach, manage, and entertain our students.
